India's first electronic toll plaza inaugurated at Zirakpur-Parwanoo highway

CHANDIGARH: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Mr. C.P. Joshi today revealed that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) would take up major road projects of 1167 kms with a tentative cost of over Rs 10.5 thousand crore in the states of Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh during the current financial year.

Mr. Joshi was addressing a function after dedicating the four-lanning of Zirakpur-Parwanoo portion (27.5 kilometer) of NH-5 to the nation at Chandimandir Toll Plaza near Panchkula here today, which has been constructed with an investment of Rs. 412 crore. He also inaugurated country’s first RFID Technology based Electronic Toll Collection Plaza. He informed that in Haryana four road projects with a length of 508 Kilometers, four in Punjab with a length of 454 kilometers and three in Himachal Pradesh with a length of 205 Kilometers would be taken up.

Mr. Joshi said that on the pattern of this newly inaugurated Electronic Toll, all Tolls in the country would be equipped with the RFID Technology so that the people could be benefited with the latest technology.

While elaborating on road projects which would undertaken this year, Mr. Joshi said that in Haryana NHAI would take up four laning of 80 kilometer long Rohtak-Hisar, two or four laning of 78 kilometer long Ambala-Kaithal, two or four laning of 160 kilometer long Kaithal to Haryana and Rajasthan border and two or four laning of 160 kilometer long Hisar-Dabwali raods would be taken up with an investment of Rs. 3574 crore.

In Punjab, 20 kilometer long Jalandhar-Amritsar, 63 kilometer long Ludhiana-Chandigarh, 172 kilometer long Sri Ganganagar-Amritsar and 199 kilometer long Jalandhar to Punjab and Haryana border roads would be taken up with an investment of Rs. 3301 crore. Similarly, this year 39 kilometer long Parwanoo-Solan road, 51 kilometer long Solan-Shimla and 115 kilometer long Ner Chowk-Manali roads would be taken up in Himachal Pradesh with an investment of Rs. 3664 crore.

Mr. Joshi said that the NHAI had completed 491 Kilometers road projects in Haryana with an investment of Rs. 1913 crore and 969 Kilometers long new projects were under implementation, which would cost Rs. 5962 crore, while 508 Kilometers long road projects worth Rs. 3574 crore would be awarded soon. Similarly, in Punjab, 1419 crore road projects of 357 Kilometer had been completed, 4791 crore projects of 645 kilometer were under implementation and 454 kilometer road projects of Rs. 3301 crore would be awarded soon. In Himachal Pradesh, the NHAI had completed five kilometer project with Rs. 50 crore investments, Rs. 1994 crore projects of 124 Kilometer were under implementation and 204 Kilometer long roads would be awarded with an estimated investment of Rs. 3664 crore, he added.

Referring to the issues raised by Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Union Culture Minister, Kumari Shelja and Haryana PWD Minister Mr. Randeep Singh Surjewala, Mr. Joshi said that the Union Government would consider exempting the natives of the village on whose land the toll plazas are set up from paying the toll tax. Nirmal Baba: Failed businessman to wealthy spiritual Guru

The controversial self-proclaimed Godman Nirmal Baba who has come under scanner following exposed by media has accumulated huge assets by resorting to deluding people to resolve their problems and woes. Any individual wishing to take part in his so-called “Nirmal Darbar” has to shell out a minimum amount of s Rs 2,000.

The amount is transferred directly into the three bank accounts of Nirmal Baba operated by him. His three back accounts are currently operative in Punjab National Bank, ICICI Bank and Yes Bank respectively. According to estimates Nirmal Darbar has an annual turnover of around 90 crore rupees.

A Hindi daily, Prabhat Khabar, in its report claims to have details of two of these bank accounts. As per the report of the newspaper, Rs 109 crore had been deposited in these two accounts this year till the first week of April 2012.

Though most of the money deposited comes from states like Bihar, West Bengal and Jharkhand, but transactions take place from all over the country. Besides this, the report also claimed that Rs 16 crore were deposited into Nirmal Baba's account on April 12, 2012.

The newspaper also claims that a fixed deposit of Rs 25 crores is held by Nirmal Baba in a leading bank. Nirmal Baba holds two accounts, one in his name — Nirmaljeet Singh Narula (real name o Nirmal Babae) and the other in the name of 'Nirmal Darbar'.

Reports also said that h has also bought a hotel in Greater Kailash area of Delhi for which he has paid whopping amount of 30 crores.

The controversial Nirmal Baba has come under sharp criticism from spiritual gurus and personalities across the country. The popular spiritual gurus including Baba Ramdev have censured Nirmal Baba for his allegedly deceiving and misguiding to people.

Swami Satyamitranand commenting on Nirmal Baba demanded thorough investigations into alleged frauds committed by Baba. He said appropriate legal action should be taken against Nirmal Baba as nobody is above law.

He said that due to misconduct of controversial gurus like Nirmal Baba, other genuine spiritual gurus in the country feel defamed. He said that police should investigate the cases registered against Nirmal Baba and if allegations are found true, he should be put behind the bars.

As far as life details of Nirmal Baba are concerned, he was born around 1950 in a Sikh family. He (Nirmal Baba) got married to the daughter of Dilip Singh Bagga in Jharkhand and has two children (son & daughter). Nirmal Baba is the brother-in-law of former speaker of Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, Inder Singh Namdharee.

Namdhari married Baba’s sister in 1964 when Nirmal was only 14-15 years old. The father of Nirmal Baba was murdered during his childhood. During the seventies, Nirmal Baba ran a cloth shop but after few years he had to close down this business as he could not prosper. After this, he got into business of bricks but he failed in this venture also.

It is said that in early 1980’s he suddenly disappeared and went to Delhi. In Jharkhand, some people who know him said that he acquired divine powers during this period and gradually got spiritualism.

He now owns a huge home in New Delhi. Interestingly, it is said that he has special healing powers and can analyse the individual sitting hundreds of kilometers away .Even his family of Nirmal Baba is surprised that how he transformed from a failed business man into affluent big spiritual guru.

Shah Rukh Khan for smoking in Jaipur stadium

JAIPUR: A complaint was filed in a court here on Monday against Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan for publicly smoking at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Sunday between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, a lawyer said.

The complaint was submitted in the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate. The court has fixed April 12 for hearing in the matter.

"Smoking publicly is banned in Rajasthan since 2000. However, Shah Rukh Khan was smoking publicly in front of thousands of spectators. The actor was broadcast live while smoking on the TV channel which was showing the match," said lawyer Nem Singh Rathore who filed the complaint on behalf of Jaipur Cricket Academy director Anand Singh Rathore.

The lawyer said that spectators were being allowed into the stadium only after frisking. "The police was confiscating any objectionable items including cigarettes while frisking. However, it seems Shah Rukh was allowed to carry the cigarette packet into the stadium which is negligence on part of the police also," the complainant said.

Shah Rukh is the co-owner of the Kolkata side.
