MUMBAI: Punjabi pop singer Malkit Singh, whose Guru Nalo Ishq Mita had become an anthem in its time, has been honored with the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) by the British Government.
“I am blessed with this honour. This honour is not only to me, but it’s an honour to my entire community, moreover to my country India, and I feel like I am on the moon,” Singh said.
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry that was established on 4 June, 1917 by King George V. Queen Elizabeth II will present this award at a ceremony.
Tootak Tootak Tootiyan, Kurri Garam Jayee and Chal Hun are other famous songs of Singh. He also performed at Central London on 31 December, 2007 on the occasion of the New Year.
Simultaneously, actress-singer Kylie Minogue will receive the OBE for her struggle against breast cancer that inspired cancer patients across the world to fight the fatal disease. An OBE will also be awarded to the famous Sri Lanka-born BBC broadcaster George Alagiah for his reportage of world events.
